Join the VJ 80 Day memorial for Burma on Friday 15 August at Queens Park in Crewe. The memorial will take place at 10.30am at Burma Star Island within the park. If attending, please arrive fifteen minutes early. Burma Star Island was dedicated in 1968 as a permanent memorial to the Allied Forces who fought in the Burma campaign during WWII from 1941-1945.
There will also be a national two-minute silence at 12 noon. A Service of Remembrance will honour and remember those who fought and died during the Second World War in the Far East at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, which will be broadcast live on BBC1 from midday.
