Introduction
Welcome to the Alsager Town Ranger page.
We have two Town Rangers, Mr Desmond Jones and Mr Andrew Rigby. They will be out and about in the town working hard to improve our environment. Please feel free to stop and chat with them. Your views and opinions are incredibly important to us and your ideas will form the cornerstone of our work over the forthcoming year. Both of the Rangers will be covering the whole week, Monday to Friday.
The best way of contacting your local Town Ranger service is by either having a chat with them (out and about) or send an email to the Facilities Manager and let us know if there is anything that you think the Ranger service can help you with. Please provide as much detail as possible including the location, type of issue and if the issue is or could cause a hazard to our communities and neighbours.
As time progresses we will be posting more pictures and information on this page. Regular updates of the work carried out by the Town Rangers throughout Alsager are available to view on the Alsager Town Council Facebook page.
Purpose of the service
The purpose of the Town Rangers is to work with communities and partners to help maintain, improve and develop the town centre and community neighbourhoods.
The Town Ranger service has now been in place for a year. Working closely with other Councils processes and procedures have been developed, and equipment and resources built up.
Moving forward, it is envisaged that the Town Ranger tasks could include:
- Representing the Town Council in the day-to-day community, and at school and community events.
- Attending classes to assist with planting, wildlife initiatives.
- Reporting of Cheshire East Council issues.
- Painting of railings, bollards, bins.
- Edging of grassed areas, weeding pavements and pruning of overhanging trees/bushes in public areas.
- General maintenance of Town Council property.
- Cleaning of bus shelters and street signage.
- Ad hoc litter picking, including attending community litter picks. Dog waste collection.
- Health and safety inspections of Town Council property/public realm.
- Removal of fly posting and unauthorised banners, and graffiti removal.
- Cutting back the overgrown pathway at the entrance to Alsager.
Responsibilities
It is important to understand that the majority of issues across the town rest with Cheshire East Council. However, increasing demands and reducing resources means that their ability to meet these challenges is constantly under threat.
Working closely with Cheshire East, we are able to carry out simple but rewarding tasks, that make a real difference to the community.
We need your help
We need you to please look around your town centre and neighbourhoods. Help the Town Council develop a picture of what the issues are and what is important to you. This information will form the basis of a register of issues which can be used to:
- Develop a programme of works for the Town Rangers.
- Develop a programme of works for the wider Town Council.
- Develop a programme of issues for Cheshire East to consider.
