October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone – regardless of age, gender, background, or circumstance. It often begins subtly and escalates over time, leaving victims feeling isolated, fearful, and to blame. But it’s not your fault. And you are not alone.
The statistics are heartbreaking:
- 1 in 4 women in England and Wales will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.
- 1 in 6 men will be affected.
- On average, one woman is killed every five days by a current or former partner.
- The police receive a domestic abuse-related call every 30 seconds.
These aren’t just numbers – they represent real people, real families, and real suffering.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, please reach out for help. Contact Cheshire East Domestic Abuse Family Safety Unit on 0300 123 5101, or in an emergency, call 999.
Find support for domestic abuse
Stoptober is back, and Cheshire East are calling on smokers to join millions of others who have quit successfully with the campaign.
Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. The good news is, if you quit smoking for 28 days, you’re five times more likely to quit for good.
Going ‘cold turkey’ is still the most common way that people attempt to give up, but quit attempts are successful more often when using quit smoking support. That’s why this year’s Stoptober campaign is inviting smokers to explore the free support available.
Together, we can do this.
