Update received from SP Energy Networks: Network reinforcement work in Alsager:
From February, you may notice roadworks starting along Crewe Road as underground electricity cables are upgraded.
What you’ll see:
Work will begin at the Hassall Road junction, then move gradually along Crewe Road, finishing at the Close Lane junction. We’ll be digging around 750 metres of the local road network, which will be carried out in stages, rather than all at once, to keep disruption to a minimum. Temporary traffic management will be in place at different points so everyone can move around the area safely.
What this means day to day
There will be some short-term changes to how roads are used while work is underway. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained, and teams on site will help where specific access is needed. To carry out the work safely, a two-way road closure will be installed, with traffic managed using rolling temporary traffic lights.
Why it needs to be done
The cables being replaced are part of the system that keeps electricity flowing to homes and businesses locally. Upgrading them now helps reduce the risk of power interruptions and means the network is better able to support new homes, jobs and investment in the area in the years ahead. It’s about quietly futureproofing the local network, rather than reacting later when something fails.
The programme has been finalised with the support of Cheshire East Council. The work will take approximately six weeks to complete and we are currently working towards a completion date of Friday 13 March.
