The Mayor of Alsager, Councillor Jane Hearne, held her Civic Service at St. Mary Magdalene Church on Sunday, 10 September 2023. The Mayor was joined by the Deputy Mayor for Alsager, Councillor Michael Unett, local Town Mayors and Chairs from Cheshire East and the MP for Congleton, Fiona Bruce MP.
The service was delivered by Reverend Michelle Goodrich and was well received by attendees, who commented that it was a lovely thought out service that reflected the local community and being kind in society. Fiona Bruce MP commented that it was a “personal and warm service with thought going into involving everyone in the congregation”.
As part of the service, former Town Councillor, Mr. Ron Tyson, was awarded the title of Honorary Freeman. Accepting the award, Mr. Tyson spoke with great humour about his surprise at receiving this award, adding that he never expected this recognition.
Mr. Tyson had done some investigation into the Honorary Freeman award and found out he could now lead all parades in Alsager, attend all Civic events and he can now graze his sheep on the green outside the library!
Mr. Tyson conveyed his thanks for the prestigious award of Honorary Freeman of Alsager, which he was truly honoured to receive. He also referred to the many messages of congratulation he had received, which he has really appreciated.
Mr. Tyson has lived in Alsager since 1976 and is proud to live here as it is a good place to live.
He continues to be actively involved in the local community as a Trustee of Jane Maddocks Homes and a Trustee of the Alsager Education Foundation.
His final words were for Alsager to continue to prosper.
The retiring collection was split between the Mayor’s nominated charities, St. Mary’s Church and Alsager Dementia Friends.
