Town Councillors are elected for a four-year term to act as an elected body in the first tier of local government. Local Council elections took place in Alsager on 4 May 2023.
The principle job of the Councillor is to participate in the collective decision-making processes of the Council. They are subject to obligations set out in the Code of Conduct adopted by the Council and the Councils Governance documents.

All Councillors are required to attend Council and Committee meetings on which they serve. The Attendance Log shows all members attendance and non-attendance. The Attendance Log Civic Year 2025-26 table shows the overall attendance at meetings by individual Councillors as a percentage against their expected attendance during that Civic Year.

Councillor June Buckley
Councillor June Buckley has been a town councillor for 5.5years in total, 2019-2023 and March 2025 to present. She was a Cheshire East ward Cllr for 4 years 2019-2023 and served on the children and families committee and the Environmental communities committee. She took part in task and finish groups and Spotlight reviews and was also on the cemetery view panel . June loves her dogs and is always walking in the town.
June is a part-time yoga teacher and practices yoga in the Alsager area.

Councillor Rod Fletcher 
Councillor Rod Fletcher has had the honour of being Mayor of Cheshire East from 2023/24 and is in his 48th year as a Councillor representing Alsager, 44 of which have been on Alsager Town Council and has been Chair of Alsager Town Council on five occasions. He served on Cheshire County Council for 4 years and has been a member of Cheshire East Council since 2009. He served on the Fire Authority for six years and during that time successfully lobbied for a fire station in Alsager. Rod was Mayor of Congleton Borough during 1998/99 and whilst on Congleton Borough Council he served as Chair of the Environmental Health Committee for eight years and as Finance Chair for three years. Rod is currently Chair of Cheshire East Council’s Audit and Governance Committee for the second time. He worked on the railways for nearly forty years retiring as a Company Control Manager for a Train Operating Company and for a while served on the Rail Industry Training Council.

Councillor Pauline Hubbard – Mayor of Alsager
Councillor Pauline Hubbard has lived in Alsager for more than 35 years and is honoured to serve as Mayor in 2025/2026, supported by her husband Mike, who was born and raised in Alsager. With a background in senior management at Cheshire County Council and Cheshire East, Pauline brings experience in leadership, governance and public service. Since being elected to Alsager Town Council in 2019, she has served across all committees, including as Chair of Civic and Assets, Finance and Governance, Grants, and as Deputy Chair for Personnel and Planning. Pauline remains active in supporting local voluntary and community groups and is committed to representing all residents fairly, politically neutrally and in the best interests of the town.

Councillor Derek Longhurst

Councillor Christopher Venables – Deputy Mayor of Alsager
Councillor Chris Venables has been a resident of Alsager for over 40 years and has served as a Town Councillor for the past 3.5 years. He takes a close and active interest in local issues and has worked consistently to improve community services while ensuring residents receive value for money from council spending.
For the past two years, he has chaired the Finance, Governance and Policy Committee, overseeing key improvements in financial oversight and policy development. He also serves as the Councillor Police Representative, where he has helped strengthen cooperation between the Town Council and local policing teams, contributing to several positive steps in community safety and engagement.

Councillor Susan Ovenden
Councillor Sue Ovenden was originally from the south, and has lived in Cheshire since 1987 and Alsager since 2020. She has three daughters and four grandchildren. Now retired from a HR job working for an adult social care company. She has had various careers over the years, working for solicitors, barristers, loss adjusters and insurance companies and has a good overview of life skills. Sue’s claim to fame is working for the owner of the famous race horse Desert Orchid and has sung with the Wombles.

Councillor Jane Hearne
Councillor Jane Hearne has served as an Alsager Town Councillor since 2019 and was Mayor of Alsager from 2023 to 2025. She has held a number of committee roles and remains actively involved in the Council’s work across the town.
Before becoming a councillor, Jane spent 35 years working for Barclays and EY, bringing extensive corporate experience to her council and community roles. She is also a trustee of local charitable organisations and has a particular interest in good governance, responsible use of public money and protecting and improving local services and facilities.
Jane is passionate about Alsager and ensuring residents’ views are heard in the decisions affecting the town.

Councillor Reg Kain 
Councilor Kain served as a school teacher in the Stoke and Cheshire area for 25 years, working primarily in inner city schools in the secondary sector. During the 80’s he served in the RAF on one of the last Lightening squadrons. He is proud of his military and public service and continues to serve the people as a Ward Councilor for Cheshire East.

Councillor Phil Williams 
Councillor Phil Williams has lived in Alsager since 2007. He was an Alsager Town Councillor from 2015 to 2023 and a Cheshire East Councillor from 2019 to 2023. He returned to the Town Council following a by-election in May 2026. Phil worked in marketing and communications in both the private and public sectors and in retirement is involved with creative writing, editing and publishing initiatives. He is widowed with two daughters.
